Shoe Review – Clarks Desert Boots

Hello and Welcome to Goodyearweltstyles.com where we focus on Goodyear welt shoes as well as show you the latest deals and what to buy and what to Avoid.

Today we are going to talk about one of the most popular shoes of all time, the Clarks Desert Boot. This is a shoe which changed a brand’s fortunes. Although strictly speaking, most of the current line are not Goodyear Welt shoes, they are usually stitch down construction it does come in a Goodyear Welt form known as the Clarks Desert Welt, the regular version retails from between 90 $ -190 $. The Goodyear Welt Version Retails at $ 380.

This shoe is another celebrity favourite. You would know the most famous man to wear these – his name is Steve Mcqueen and which little boy did not dream of being Steve Mcqueen.

The story behind these shoes, is while Nathan Clark was an army officer stationed in Burma in the 1940s, he noticed some of the officers wearing these. He discovered that these boots came from Cairo’s Khan el-Khalili bazaar and would hold up to Burmese weather conditions better than the boots commissioned to the British army.

Convinced that this boot would change the family business’s dwindling fortunes, he started creating working prototypes, but the shoe was not well received in England at first, so he went to America, unveiling the first edition at the Chicago Shoe Fair of 1949. The shoe received great success in America and then became one of the most popular shoes of all time.

In terms of models, I would recommend the Beeswax Leather to you and say that it is worth the money. The Leather ages quite well, so will still look good when you decide to resole them. This is the Boot that I would recommend to a college student looking to expand his wardrobe or to anybody who wants to get quality footwear at a reasonable price.

Let’s have a look at the pros and cons of this boot.

Pros

  1. Stylish and cool looking.
  2. Beeswax Leather is nice
  3. Resoleable
  4. Chukka styling offers just the right amount of Ankle support.
  5. Value for money

Cons

  1. Crepe Soles can feel odd at first but you’d adjust to them fast enough.
  2. I am not entirely sold on the quality of the suede.

Now lets ask the most important question, should you buy these ? The answer is a yes. Yes you should get a pair, they are fantastic value for money. The Beeswax Leather is likely your best bet
